The enchanting chapel was erected between 1679 and 1688, built with blocks of white sandstone and pink stone, mixed together with occasional tiles. A rectangular space, it is divided in three areas, the three arched lodge, the actual church, and the sacristy. The presence of two windows on either side of the main door, recall a very defuse style of architecture in smaller towns of our countryside.
Unfortunately thieves and vandals have repeatedly broken and entered, and have deprived the chapel of its art objects, removing the sandstone decorations, the splendid marble altar of Saint Hippolitus, and profaned the tomb of the Marquis of Sorbolonghi.
A small room above the sacristy and the loft complete the structure, an exquisite architectural example, and used until the middle of the 1970’s for officiating religious ceremonies, and the ceremony of the great May festival. With the escape of the peasants to the bigger cities, and with private motorization evermore widespread, it became useless to make use of the chapel as desired by Tiberius. It is still consecrated, and a place where many weddings and baptisms have been celebrated over the years.
